iPhone 12 Pro Max Case from Mous
Project Description
Would you carry around the phrases and mantras motivate your life and career?
After my friend helped me write out some of mantras with her amazing calligraphy skills, I wanted a daily reminder of the reasons why I choose to design the speculative projects and share them on my website and YouTube channel. I decided to reduce the original three phrases into two and modified the combination of words; Design Love and Share Joy.
This simple abstraction of the mantras helped me fit the words in a larger size on the back of my iPhone 12 Pro Max case from Mous that came with a beautiful walnut veneer back. I’ll always have it with me wherever I go, especially when I’m in need of a reminder.
Process
For this project, I decided to use the same graphics that my friend Melissa from @Calligracrafty on Instagram designed for my motivational wall art. However, I needed the phrases to be shortened so that they would fit on the walnut veneer of my iPhone case. I decided to remove the filler words and only use the bold ones in two out of the three phrases. The phrases I chose were;
- Design Love
- Share Joy
These two phrases are abstract enough to make you think, but they also read with clarity. They’re a reminder for why I pursue my personal projects and the ones that I’m creating here on this YouTube channel.
Once the design was complete, I removed my iPhone from the case and applied blue painters tape over the walnut veneer. The blue painters tape will protect the rest of the case from any burns and debris as my Glowforge laser cutter engraves graphic onto the veneer. When the painters tape was applied, I placed the case in my Glowforge, located the graphic through Glowforge’s online interface, and started the engraving process.
After 10 minutes, the engraving was complete. I removed the blue painters tape and applied some Odies oil to the exposed wood of the engraved graphic. Once the oil soaked into the wood, I wiped off the excess oil and the personalized case was complete!
