Minimal Courtyard House Design
Project Description
How can we design a courtyard house that focuses on privacy and reconnecting with nature?
Growing up in New York City, I always loved visiting parks and walking on paths surrounded by nature. Aside from those parks, the rest of my neighborhood was surrounded by asphalt, concrete, and buildings with small trees that never matured. This simple connection to nature is something that I incorporate into almost all of my architecture designs.
When the pandemic caused a majority of the world to shut down in 2020 and most of us found ourselves indoors for a majority of our days. This one moment in history lead to a wide acceptance of working from home and changed the way that we think about our work life balance. A lot of my family and friends started purchasing indoor house plants for both their psychological and environmental benefits.
This minimal courtyard house was designed with a central green space full of plants and small trees that could be seen from all of the public spaces of the house. The courtyard is surrounded by multi panel sliding door systems that open and seamlessly blends the interior and exterior spaces.
