Hidden Courtyard Home
Basements are one of the most underutilized spaces in homes all over the world. In cities where real estate is expensive like London, wealthy owners were starting to dig and expand their basements into mega spaces that were larger than the actual house at the street level. Eventually, it started to impact the structure and stability of the adjacent properties. What if we took this idea, expanded a basement beneath the backyard of a typical property, and added a secret courtyard space to bring natural light and fresh air into the spaces?
In this video, we’re designing a 2600 square foot house with 2 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and plenty of common spaces for family and friends to gather and relax. The home has a courtyard that’s hidden from view by placing it at the basement level of the home where people can walk into the patio, enjoy time outside in a private area, and head back into the spacious living areas.
